Competitive Events – Pool & Open Water
At the Roughies we support the diverse swimming goals of our members, and this can include MSV pool competitions, as well as Open Water events and Triathlons.
Pool Competitions
As an affiliated Masters Swimming Victoria club our members are eligible to compete in Masters Competitions
Through our affiliation with Masters Swimming Victoria, our members have the opportunity to participate in any Masters competitions in Victoria as well as National competitions and championships. Note – MSV membership is required to enter any competitions.
Masters competitions are less about competing against other and more about challenging yourself against the clock. They are low stress, well-run timed events that help you track and achieve your personal swim goals. There is no requirement to have swum competitively in your teenage – anyone can commence competing at any age!

Open Water Events
What’s better than participating in an Open Water event such as Lorne’s Pier to Pub? Doing it with team mates!
Open water events are usually run by local Surf Lifesaving Clubs over summer. The classic distance is 1.2km but many also offer longer or shorter distances.
These events are well run, safe events. Start times for each event are staggered with swimmers of similar ages starting together (and sometimes separated by gender).
At the start of each Open Water Season, the club nominates a handful of events that members who are interested in participating in, can enter. At these events, the club:
- Organises car pooling for anyone requiring transport,
- Sets up a sun shelter and flag for members to gather at.
- Sets up a chat group for attendees and event day coordination via the members-only TEAMAPP site
You do not need to be a member of Masters Swimming Victoria to enter Ocean events.
